In a publishing environment which is overwhelmingly online, Taylor & Francis are conscious that there is a danger that articles can get disaggregated from their proper journal and peer review context. We have implemented a Peer Review Integrity mark for online versions to ensure that online journal articles remain connected to their journal context, and give a guarantee of peer review integrity based on each journal's rigorous refereeing procedures.
This, in combination with the Date Stamp – ‘First published online’ – and the electronic watermark – the Digital Object Identifier (see www.doi.org ), ensure the version as published in the journal is recognised and cited as the definitive version of scientific record, establishing priority of discovery.
A sample statement of PRI reads:
"All published research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous refereeing by independent expert referees."
