Taylor & Francis Supports Responsible Forestry
The Taylor & Francis Group is extremely pleased to announce that it has been awarded the highly respected Chain-of- Custody certificate in accordance with the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). As far as we can tell, we are the first academic publisher in the UK to receive this globally recognized certification.
The Chain-of-Custody acknowledges our compliance with the highest social and environmental practices, supporting the world’s forests and timber resources—as supported by the FSC whose goal it is to ensure forests are conserved for future generations.
Gaining this well-regarded award involved the tracking of certified material from the forest right through the production process and all the way to the point of sale. The Chain-of-Custody is an extremely tightly controlled process and receiving its award is part of Taylor & Francis’ overall commitment to sustainable causes and corporate responsibility.
It applies to the three UK production sites for Taylor & Francis; Milton Park 2 and 4 in Oxfordshire, UK, and Psychology Press in Hove, UK.
The FSC is a non-profit organization founded in 1993 and key supporters include Greenpeace, World Wildlife Fund, many indigenous peoples’ organizations, timber traders and retailers, and members of printing industries world-wide. Further information can be found on the website: www.fsc.org.
The Books and Journals businesses first started this process in 2003 by holding conversations with Greenpeace. Over the subsequent years, we transferred to using FSC paper, and after much team effort and dedication, this is the final piece of the certification jigsaw.
