Abstract
Approximately 10% of schizophrenics die by committing suicide. The schizophrenic who commits suicide tends to be male, young, unmarried, vulnerable to develop depression, is in the first few years of illness and has made a past suicide attempt. The postdischarge period is a time of increased risk.
