Abstract
Based on the demands of qualified civil engineers in China, integrated knowledge structure, multi-level knowledge and abilities of innovation, adaptation, cooperation, communication and organization are set forth as the goals of civil engineering education. The predicaments of civil engineering education are discussed. Three challenges, that is, student-centred education, dynamics of education organization and open education, are highlighted in this paper to draw the attention of educators, construction practitioners, industry leaders and legislators.
