This scientometric investigation of research performance focuses on publications in seven leading European psychology journals. For the period 1980-89 inclusive, articles by members of university departments of psychology in the United Kingdom were counted, and the average number of articles per staff member was calculated for each department. The resulting research performance figures correlated positively and significantly with recent performance estimates by other researchers using different methods.
