Abstract

In controlling a production line the question arises at which points inspections are to be undertaken. A model is presented how to solve this allocation problem from an economic point of view. The objective function which can be interpreted as the longterm average profit per item produced is maximized by means of dynamic programming. Examples are given, where for an important special case the optimal inspection points are determined together with the optimal control policy.
