Abstract
At the Leon River Medicine Wheel, safely hidden in a central Texas forest, far from paved roads, they always begin the reburial ceremony with a flag song. The first thing erected at the cemetery after the tall protective fence was a flagpole. Carrying the colors is a privilege of the warrior societies—now called veterans' organizations in deference to white opinion. At this particular ceremony, the Kiowa Black Leggings do the honors, and the drum is in fine form.
