Abstract

This article reviews the use of outdoor and camping programs as methods of change with many groups of clients commonly seen by social workers. Research is cited which demonstrates that participants in camping programs can change in many ways, including in attitudes and behaviour, psycho-emotional adjustment, and in specific coping and skill levels. Technical aspects of camps, including staff characteristics, are briefly reviewed, and some Australian literature is cited.
