Abstract
MedlinePlus http://www.medlineplus.gov, the gold standard for Internet-based consumer health information, is a product of the National Library of Medicine. Go Local is a feature on every MedlinePlus health topic page. Health topics on MedlinePlus describe a condition, how it is diagnosed, options for treatment and other details, while the Go Local feature identifies where a patient can get local services such as treatment, special equipment, or exercise facilities. A Go Local region can host their own system linking to and from MedlinePlus or can be on the system hosted by NLM. This article describes the creation of INHealthConnect, providing background information and identifying issues for planning and developing a Go Local database on the NLM-hosted system.
