Developing World Initiatives
Taylor & Francis Group is committed to the widest distribution of its journals to non-profit institutions in developing countries. Through agreements with worldwide organisations, academics and researchers in more than 110 countries can access vital scholarly material, at greatly reduced or no cost.
Taylor & Francis Group, which includes the imprints of Taylor & Francis, Routledge and Psychology Press, is delighted to be part of such initiatives that aim to increase dissemination opportunities for research produced in emerging nations and to bring this scholarly material to the global academic community.
Initiatives:
Special Terms for African Researchers (STAR)
STAR is a new project by Taylor & Francis Group helping to make scholarly journals more widely available to those that have difficulty affording them. STAR is for individual academics in sub-Saharan Africa who want to get access to cutting edge research in a wide variety of subject areas.
Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI)
In cooperation with the World Health Organisation, Taylor & Francis Group is a longstanding participant in HINARI, which provides free or low cost online access to journals in biomedical and related social sciences across Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East.
Access to Global Research Online in Agriculture (AGORA)
The AGORA programme, established by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN (FAO), is HINARI's sister programme and includes Taylor & Francis Group's online journals in the fields of food, agriculture, environmental and related social sciences. It is designed to enhance the scholarship of the many thousands of students, faculty and researchers in developing countries.
Online Access to Research in the Environment (OARE)
Launched in October 2006, OARE is an initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Yale University. 130 Taylor & Francis Group online journals in the environmental sciences are available in countries from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP)
Through an agreement between the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) and Taylor & Francis Group, eligible countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the New Independent States may purchase nationwide online access for its network of libraries and researchers.
The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library (LanTEEAL)
LanTEEAL is the local area network version of TEEAL, a full text and bibliographic CD-ROM library of journals in the agricultural sciences. LanTEEAL was developed to make content more accessible to users and offers seamless online access to a selection of Taylor & Francis Group journals.
Association of Commonwealth Universities Low Cost Journals Scheme
The aim of the ACU Low Cost Journals Scheme is to facilitate the purchase of print journals in 17 countries across Africa. The Scheme allows institutions to purchase print subscriptions at greatly reduced rates, allowing universities to restore their libraries using their own funds, or those from external agencies.
Journal Donation Project
Through an initiative at New School University, New York, libraries in 29 countries, including Eastern Europe and Africa, can purchase print and online subscriptions at highly discounted rates. The JDP is focused on the development of archives and on rebuilding major research and teaching libraries in countries that have fallen victim to political or economic deprivation.
