Informa Author Made Honorary Member of the AAD

Dr Jerome Z. Litt, author of over 40 skin disease-based articles in scientific journals, has been chosen to receive a Presidential Citation from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) for his editorship of Litt’s Drug Eruption Reference Manual. He will now be an Honorary Member of the AAD.

Dr Litt founded the Drug Eruption Reference Manual 15 years ago, and at a time when adverse reactions to drugs are at their highest number ever, his continued editorship and work in the drug eruption field has never been more important. Recent figures produced by the Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) suggest that in the UK alone nearly 3000 patients have died in the past three years after suffering adverse reactions (ADRs) to prescribed medication. This number rises dramatically to over 100,000 deaths annually in the US, according to The Journal of the American Medical Association. Furthermore, in the UK, the number of reported ADRs has increased by 45% in the last decade.

Dr Litt’s reference manual therefore is a key tool for combating this rise. Now in its 14th edition, it stands as the most widely acclaimed resource for practising dermatologists, primary care physicians and hospital consultants. The manual is now supported by the Drug Eruption Database, which enables practitioners to search the profiles of over 1,100 drugs for their adverse reactions, eruptions and interactions. This comprehensive source is regularly updated with around six new drugs and over 400 new references every month, all taken from reliable, international sources.
