About Routledge

The Routledge imprint has a long and distinguished history dating back to 1836, and established its academic credentials in the 20th century when, under Routledge and Kegan Paul, so many of the key thinkers of the time were published: Bertrand Russell, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Levi-Strauss, Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, A.J.P. Taylor, Jean-Paul Sartre, Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Herbert Marcuse, Karl Popper, Jean Piaget, Simone Weill, Albert Einstein, Erich Fromm, Konrad Lorenz, Emile Durkheim, Theodor Adorno, F.A. Hayek, Marshall McLuhan, Max Weber, Raymond Williams, Iris Murdoch, and many more.

Since January 2005, all social science, arts and humanities (SSAH) journals published by the Taylor & Francis Group have been published under the Routledge imprint, creating a strong and unified presence across all SSAH subject areas.

For journals, the main aim is to provide heightened awareness in the academic, policy and business communities for all SSAH journals, not least by presenting a unified, integrated presence at the thousands of conferences and meetings we attend each year.

To the traditional strengths of Routledge journals, and to the heritage of the imprint in subjects such as philosophy, history, anthropology, media and cultural studies, and sociology, we have added SSAH journals and books from the Carfax, Cass, Spon, Swets & Zeitlinger, and Taylor & Francis imprints. This has brought a powerful new momentum to the whole subject range in the social sciences, arts and humanities.

The Routledge tradition indisputably shows that we have been the key publisher for those who, through their scholarship, have changed the course of academic disciplines (experimental as well as mainstream, and across the whole political and sociocultural spectrum) but always forward-thinking and at the cutting-edge of academic thought. With our new combined presence under this imprint, we are able to show unequivocally that we are the largest and most successful social science, arts and humanities publisher in the world which will redound to the great benefit of your books and journals.

The provision of new, innovative and groundbreaking products and services, delivered at the cutting edge of technology, is central to Routledge’s modern publishing ethos.

We aim to build on this in the coming years with Routledge’s combined books and journals presence. Book and journal materials will increasingly be presented and sold to library markets via a unified online platform, and to benefit readership and usage it is important to be able to have a single offering for the marketplace, to the mutual benefit and reinforcement of our book and journal programmes.

Routledge is the preferred journal publishing partner for many of the world’s most prestigious learned societies and associations, such as: Regional Studies Association; British Educational Research Association; Society for Psychotherapy Research; European Accounting Association; National Communications Association; Oxfam, and the Australasian Association of Philosophy, to name but a few.

Routledge remains a key publisher for those who, through their scholarship, seek to influence the course of academic thought, across the social sciences and humanities.

Routledge is an imprint of the Taylor & Francis Group - an Informa business.
