Theoretical and empirical materials are abstracted with a focus
on the following topic areas:

- Employment
- Women in the family and community
- Medicine and health
- Female sex and gender role socialisation
- Social policy
- Social psychology of women
- Female culture
- Media treatment of women
- Biography
- Literary criticism
- Historical studies
Published bi-monthly, each issue of abstracts gives the reader
up-to-date news of developments within this field. All the major
international journals and books are scanned and other original
sources and cataloguing services regularly searched for
appropriate items. Abstracts are prepared by an international
team of experts, are non-evaluative in form and are accompanied
by detailed bibliographical citations. An author and subject
index appear in each issue to facilitate the rapid retrieval of
relevant information. These are cumulated annually and bound in
the final issue of each volume.
Studies on Women and Gender Abstracts (SWA) is now available in
an easy-to-use, fully-searchable online database format and is
available free to institutional subscribers to the print journal.
The database comprises abstracts from the journal, dating back to
1995. Abstracts are linked, where possible, to full-text
services.
