Biography

PONISSERIL SOMASUNDARAN is the La von Duddleson Krumb Professor at Columbia University's School of Engineering and Applied Science and Director of the Langmuir Center for Colloids and Interfaces. In 1985, he was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering, and its equivalent in China, India, and Russia. He is founding director of the NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Advanced Studies in Novel Surfactants; and has authored and edited fifteen books and over 400 scientific publications and patents. He is the editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of Surface and Colloid Science and founding editor-in-chief of the international journal Colloids and Surfaces. He obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of California - Berkeley, after graduating from the Indian Institute of Science.

Biography

ARTHUR T. HUBBARD is Director of the Santa Barbara Science Project, California. The author or coauthor of numerous publications, he is editor of the Surfactant Science Series (Marcel Dekker, Inc.), coeditor of the Journal of Colloid & Interface Science, and chair of the Colloid & Surface Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society. A member of the Electrochemical Society, the American Physical Society, Sigma Xi, and the Society of Electroanalytical Chemistry, among others, he received the B.A. degree (1963) from Westmont College, Santa Barbara, California, and the Ph.D. degree (1967) from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena.
