Articles
To submit an article, authors are advised to follow these guidelines:

  • Survival articles are around 8,000 words long including endnotes. A word count should be included with a draft.
  • All text, including endnotes, should be double-spaced with wide margins.
  • Any tables or artwork should be supplied on separate sheets of paper, ideally not embedded in the document or linked to text around it.
  • All Survival articles are expected to be endnoted. These should be complete and include first and last names of authors, titles of articles (even from newspapers), place of publication, publisher, exact publication dates, volume and issue number (if from a journal) and page numbers.
  • A summary of up to 125 words should be included with the article. The summary should state the main argument clearly and concisely, not simply say what the article is about (see www.iiss.org/survivalsummaries.php).
  • A short author's biography of one or two lines should also be included. This information will appear at the foot of the first page of the article.

Submissions should be made by email, in Microsoft Word format, to the Assistant Editor Jeffrey Mazo mazo@iiss.org. Alternatively, hard copies may be sent to Survival, IISS, Arundel House, 13-15 Arundel Street, Temple Place, London WC2R 3DX, UK. Please direct any queries to Jeffrey Mazo

Following these points will speed up the production of the article. If they are not followed, the article may have to be delayed until a later issue.

Letters to the Editor
The Letters to the Editor section is a popular forum for debate and response. Readers are encouraged to comment on articles from the previous issue, writing no more than 750 words. If published, the author of the original article is asked if he/she would like to respond to the critic's points. Letters should be concise and relate directly to the argument or points made in the original article; more general letters will not be considered.

Letters can be emailed to Dr Jeffrey Mazo, Assistant Editor. Alternatively, letters can be faxed to +44 (0)20 7395 9148 or posted to Survival, Letters to the Editor, IISS, Arundel House, 13-15 Arundel Street, Temple Place, London WC2R 3DX, UK.

Free article access: Corresponding authors can receive 50 free reprints, free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Complimentary reprints are available through Rightslink® and additional reprints can be ordered through Rightslink® when proofs are received.
