Instructions for Authors

Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to the journal's online submission website at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/upcp. The website accepts both Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF files.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.

Scholar One Manuscript Central will automatically assign each page a running head and footer, as well as page numbers and line numbers to your manuscript. Best online viewing results for authors and reviewers will be obtained with original files that DO NOT contain page numbers, line numbers, or any information in the manuscript header or footer.

Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of no more that 250 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text within the abstract. Normally, manuscripts should not exceed 30 pages of 300 words each, inclusive of notes, references, and illustrations.

All submissions undergo blind review, so the author's name and affiliation should not appear in the manuscript. Instead, kindly provide a blind covering sheet that includes the title of the article, full names and academic or professional affiliations of all authors, and the complete address including telephone, fax, and e-mail of the author to whom proofs and correspondence should be sent. Include at the bottom of the covering sheet an author's note in the standard form, “[Author's name] is [title] at [academic or professional affiliation].” Manuscripts should conform to the style guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.), including the author/date system of citation and reference. The Publication Manual is available from the American Psychological Association, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002, USA.

Authors whose manuscripts are accepted for publication are required to make all information in datasets used in the article freely available to researchers, on request.

Information from or access to these data sets may be withheld only with special permission from the editor prior to publication.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted should be clean digital files and should be 300 dpi or higher and should be sized to fit on a journal page.

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is currently $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be printed on separate pages. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction.

Proofs

Proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article, and it will be printed in accordance with the editor's instructions. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted. The author will be charged for additional alterations to text at the proof stage.

Offprints

Each author of the article will receive a complete copy of the issue in which the article appears, up to 3 copies per article. The corresponding author is responsible for distributing copies to co-authors. Offprints of individual articles may be ordered from the publisher.
