Instructions by Article Type:
There are three types of manuscripts submitted for publication:
1) Original Research Reports
Each section should include the following content:
Abstract: Reports of original data should include an abstract of no more than 300 words using the following headings: Background, Design, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. For brevity, parts of the abstract may be written as phrases rather than complete sentences.
Background: Explaining the clinical (or other) importance of the study question. Review existing literature related to the study. State any hypotheses or objectives.
Design: Describe the basic design of the study. State the years of the study and the duration of follow-up. Also describe the study setting and participants. Include the numbers of participants and how they were selected.
Methods: The essential features of any interventions should be described, including their method and duration of administration. Indicate the primary study outcome measurement(s). Describe any statistical analysis performed.
Results: The main outcomes of the study should be reported and quantified.
Conclusions: Provide only conclusions of the study directly supported by the results, along with implications for clinical practice, avoiding speculation and overgeneralization. Indicate whether additional study is required before the information should be used in usual clinical settings. Give equal emphasis to positive and negative findings of equal scientific merit.
2) Clinical Communications/Case Reports
Each section should include the following content:
Abstract: Include a 250 non-structured abstract
Background/Objectives: Explaining the clinical (or other) importance of the case. Review existing literature related to the case. State any hypotheses or objectives. Discuss any theoretical frameworks used to approach the case (e.g. Cognitive-behavioral; mindfulness, etc…)
Case Presentation: Describe the presenting symptoms, any treatment modalities, outcomes and adverse outcomes. The text may be in narrative format.
Discussion: Discuss any implications from the case presentation and how your experience/finding advance the field. Relate the case to current literature/theory. Suggest future directions of study.
3) Introspections, Art and Book Reviews
Brief personal vignettes of experiences that have been particularly important—moments of insight or inspiration—will be considered for publication. Authors may also submit brief historical or contemporary snapshots or artwork (black and white only) related to portrayals of illness or practice with accompanying text of 250-500 words signifying their relevance to the field today. Please contact the editor prior to reviewing a book or if you have a book that you believe should be reviewed.
Where applicable, please include:
Illustrations:
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
- sized to fit on journal page
- 300 dpi or higher
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
- black and while only
Tables and Figures:
Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double spaced,
on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.
Acceptance to the Journal:
Page Proofs:
All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article and it will be printed per the editor's instruction. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted. The author will be charged for additional alterations to text at the proof stage.
Offprints:
Each corresponding author of an article will receive one complete copy of issue in which the article appears. Offprints of an individual article may be ordered from Taylor & Francis by using the offprint order form included with page proofs.
