Instructions for Authors

The Editors welcome submission of manuscripts for consideration. By submission of a manuscript, an author certifies that the work is original and is not being considered simultaneously by another publisher. The Editors expect that papers will reflect the wide spectrum of disciplines found in the tradition of urban theory and geography as well as cross-disciplinary analysis of planning practice. The submission of papers from practitioners and scholars in the field who represent the policy community as well as the academic community is particularly encouraged. Articles should be rigorous with quantitative and technical sophistication as necessary.

Submission via email is preferred.  Please email your manuscript to ips@cardiff.ac.uk.
If email is not possible, submissions can also be made via post.  If so, please send three copies of your manuscript to: Denise Phillips, Department of City and Regional Planning, Cardiff University, Glamorgan Building, King Edward VII Avenue, Cardiff CF10 3WA, UK. Tel: +44 (0)29 2087 4709. Fax: +44 (0)29 2087 4845.  Please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors

Manuscripts should be typed on one side of the paper, double spaced, with ample margins, and bear the title of the contribution and name(s) of the author(s) on a separate sheet of paper. The full postal address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints should also be included. All pages should be numbered. Contributions should not normally be more than 8000 words in length and should be written in the English language. They should also include an abstract of 100 words. Footnotes to the text should be avoided wherever this is reasonably possible.

Tables and captions to illustrations. Tables must be typed out on separate sheets and not included as part of the text. The captions to illustrations should be gathered together and also typed out on a separate sheet. Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively and referenced in the text.

Figures. Artwork must be submitted in suitable condition for publication.

References should be indicated in the typescript by giving the author's name and the year of publication as follows: Hall (1992) or (Hall, 1992). If several papers by the same author and from the same year are cited, a, b, c, etc. should be put after the year of publication. The references should be listed in full at the end of the paper in the following standard form:

Amin, A. & Robins, K. (1991) The re-emergence of regional economies? The mythical geography of flexible accumulation, Environment and Planning D: Society and Space, 8(1), pp. 7-34.

Forester, J. (1992) Envisioning the politics of public sector dispute resolution, in S. Sibley & A. Sarat (Eds) Studies in Law, Politics and Society, 12, pp. 83-122 (Greenwich, CT: JAI Press).

Oxford Retail Group (1989) Planning for Major Retail Development (Oxford: Oxford Institute of Retail Management).

Pickvance, C. & Preteceille, E. (Eds) (1991) State Restructuring and Local Power: A Comparative Perspective (London: Pinter).

Titles of journals should not be abbreviated.

Disks. Authors should send the final, revised version of their articles in both hard copy paper and electronic disk forms. It is essential that the hard copy (paper) version exactly matches the material on disk. Please print out the hard copy from the disk you are sending. Submit three printed copies of the final version with the disk to the journal's editorial office. Save all files on a standard 3.5 inch high-density disk. We prefer to receive disks in Microsoft Word in a PC format, but can translate from most other common word processing programs as well as Macs. Please specify which program you have used. Do not save your files as "text only" or "read only".

Proofs will be sent to authors if there is sufficient time to do so. They should be corrected and returned to the publisher within three days. Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted.

Free article access: Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Reprints of articles published in this journal can be purchased through Rightslink® when proofs are received. If you have any queries, please contact our reprints department at reprints@tandf.co.uk
