Instructions for Authors:

All submissions should be made online at the Journal of Social Work Practice ScholarOne Manuscripts site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.

Papers should not exceed 6,500 words. All submissions will be sent anonymously for the observations of referees. Manuscripts should be double spaced, with ample margins of at least one inch and the approximate number of words should be stated. Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second document all information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as “File not for review”. 

All pages should be numbered. Proofs for checking will normally be sent to the first author named to whom any correspondence and offprints will also be addressed. Footnotes to the text should be avoided wherever this is reasonably possible.

Papers will be considered providing that they are not submitted simultaneously elsewhere for publication.

References should follow the Harvard system, i.e. they should be indicated in the typescript by giving the author's names, with the year of publication in parentheses, e.g. Smith (1984); or if there are more than two authors, Smith et al. (1984). If several papers from the same author(s) and from the same year are cited, (a), (b), (c), etc. should be put after the year of publication. The references should be listed in full alphabetically at the end of the paper on a separate sheet in the following standard form:

Titles of journals should not be abbreviated.

Illustrations should not be inserted in the text but each uploaded separately and numbered with Figure numbers, title of paper and name. All photographs, graphs and diagrams should be referred to as Figures and should be numbered consecutively in the text in Arabic numerals (e.g. Fig. 3). A list of captions for the figures should be submitted as a separate file and should make interpretation possible without reference to the text. Captions should include keys to symbols.

Tables should be uploaded as separate files and should be given Arabic numbers (e.g. Table 3). Their approximate position in the text should be indicated. Units should appear in parentheses in the column heading but not in the body of the table. Words or numerals should be repeated on successive lines; 'ditto' or 'do' should not be used.

Proofs will be sent to the author if there is sufficient time to do so. Proofs including proofs of illustrations are supplied for checking and making essential corrections, not for general revision or alteration. Proofs should be corrected and returned within 3 days of receipt.
