Instructions for Authors
Please pay close attention to the instructions below, then follow these easy steps to submit your manuscript to the journal: Step 1 Download the recently revised Author Checklist. It is not necessary to meet all style and formatting requirements when you first submit a manuscript. However, if your manuscript is accepted, it will need to conform to the journal's style and formatting requirements as detailed in the Author Checklist. New recommendations for article length: Type of article Number of Words Number of Tables/Figures Abstract Length Number of References Original article (report of research findings) 4,000 words 4 tables/figures combined* 250 words no limit Review 6,000 words 4 tables/figures combined* 250 words no limit Brief Report 2,000 words 2 tables/figures combined* 250 words 35 references Letter 1,000 words no tables or figures 250 words 10 references Commentary query the editor before submitting no tables or figures no abstract required no limit *This means you may submit an article with a combined count as listed. In other words, if 4 tables/figures are allowed, you can submit 3 figures and 1 table, or 2 figures and 2 tables, etc. Step 2 Collect the following information: - The full title of the manuscript
- All authors' names and affiliations.
- Determine whether part or all of your manuscript has been published previously elsewhere, other than in conference proceedings as an oral presentation or poster. If it has been published elsewhere, you will need to justify submitting it to this journal.
- Determine whether all authors on the manuscript had full access to all relevant data.
- Determine whether the text of the manuscript was reviewed by a sponsor prior to submission.
- Assemble all the computer files that are part of your manuscript, including the main text, tables, figures, and an optional cover letter to the editor. When you first submit a manuscript to N&TR, it should be in Adobe Acrobat PDF, Word, or WordPerfect, with tables and figures embedded in the manuscript. You will be asked to upload the manuscript file, an optional cover letter, and any additional files during the submission process. Later, if your manuscript is accepted for publication, the journal will need the files in your final version to be separated, with separate manuscript file, figure file(s), and table file(s).
- All authors of accepted articles will be required to complete a declaration of competing interests.
Step 3 Submit your manuscript. Please enter names and affiliations for all authors. Please do not enter an email address with spam protection that requires senders to authenticate their messages in a reply message. Using this type of protection will prevent you from receiving important email about your manuscript, since some messages are automated.
