Instructions for Authors
The instructions below are specifically directed at authors that wish to submit a manuscript to the Journal of Poetry Therapy (JPT). For general information, please visit the Publish With Us section of our website. JPT considers all manuscripts on the strict condition that they have been submitted only to the JPT, that they have not been published already, nor are they under consideration for publication or in press elsewhere. Authors who fail to adhere to this condition will be charged with all costs which the JPT incurs and their papers will not be published. Contributions to JPT must report original research and will be subjected to anonymous review by members of the interdisciplinary Editorial Board. Decisions regarding publication will be made by the Editor with advice from the Editorial Board, with feedback provided to authors on decisions taken.
Manuscript preparation
JPT is an interdisciplinary journal seeking manuscripts on the use of the language arts in therapeutic, educational, and community-building capacities. JPT welcomes a wide variety of scholarly papers including theoretical, historical, clinical/practice, research (qualitative and quantitative) and evaluation studies. 1. General guidelines -
Papers are accepted in English only. -
A typical article will not exceed 6,000 words. Papers that greatly exceed this will be critically reviewed with respect to length. Authors should include a word count with their manuscript. Poetry, commentaries, book reviews, and brief reports (5-7 pages) are also invited. -
All the authors of a paper should include their full names, affiliations, postal addresses, telephone and fax numbers and email addresses on the cover page of the manuscript. One author should be identified as the Corresponding Author. -
Manuscripts should be compiled in the following order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text; acknowledgements; appendixes (as appropriate); references; table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figure caption(s) (as a list). -
The manuscript title should be brief and indicate the main topic of the article. -
Abstracts of 150 words are required for all papers submitted. -

Please supply a short biographical note, up to 50 words, for each author. -
For all manuscripts non-discriminatory language is mandatory. Sexist or racist terms should not be used. -
When using a word which is or is asserted to be a proprietary term or trade mark, authors must use the symbol ® or TM. 2. Footnotes and Tables
Footnotes are not normally permitted but endnotes may be used if necessary. Tables should be laid out clearly and supplied on separate pages, with an indication within the text of their approximate location. Vertical lines should be omitted, and horizontal lines limited to those indicating the top and bottom of the table, below column headings and above summed totals. Totals and percentages should be labelled clearly. 3. References 4. Reproduction of copyright material
Contributors are required to secure permission for the reproduction of any figure, table or extensive extract (more than fifty words) from the text of a source that is copyrighted or owned by a party other than Taylor & Francis or the contributor. This applies to direct reproduction as well as 'derivative reproduction', where the contributor has created a new figure or table that derives substantially from a copyrighted source. Authors are themselves responsible for the payment of any permission fees required by the copyright owner. Copies of permission letters should be sent with the manuscript upon submission to the Editor(s)

Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts electronically. Electronic submissions should be sent as email attachments using a standard word processing program. This journal does not accept Microsoft Word 2007 documents. Please use Word's "Save As" option to save your document as an older (.doc) file type. If email submission is not possible, please send an electronic version on disk and three paper copies of your manuscript to the Editor:

Manuscripts must be typed, double-spaced throughout, on A4 paper, allowing 4 cm minimum margins. The approximate number of words should be stated. An additional copy should be retained by the author(s). Copyright and authors' rights It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights, including abstracts, to the National Association for Poetry Therapy (NAPT). Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies, which can be found at /authors_journals_copyright_position. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources. Exceptions are made for Government employees whose policies require that copyright cannot be transferred to other parties. We ask that a signed statement to this effect is submitted when returning proofs for accepted papers. Reprints
Corresponding authors can receive 50 free reprints, free online access to their article through our website (/) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article.
