Manuscript preparation

1. General guidelines

  • All submissions should be consistent with the Aims and Scope of the Journal.
  • Papers are accepted only in English. American or British English spelling and punctuation is acceptable provided usage is consistent.
  • A typical article will be between 3,000 and 5,000 words. Papers that fall below the minimum or greatly exceed the maximum will be critically reviewed with respect to length. Authors should include a word count with their manuscript.
  • All submissions should be typed in double spacing (including references).
  • All the authors of a paper should include their full names, affiliations, postal addresses, telephone and fax numbers and email addresses on the title page of the manuscript. One author should be identified as the Corresponding Author.
  • For all manuscripts non-discriminatory language is mandatory. Sexist or racist terms should not be used.
  • Authors must adhere to SI units. Units are not italicised.
  • When using a word which is or is asserted to be a proprietary term or trade mark, authors must use the symbol ® or TM.

2. Style guidelines

  • Description of the Journal's reference style, Quick guide
  • Use single quotation marks with double within if needed.

3. Reproduction of copyright material

Contributors are required to secure permission for the reproduction of any figure, table or extensive extract (more than fifty words) from the text of a source that is copyrighted or owned by a party other than Taylor & Francis or the contributor. This applies to direct reproduction as well as 'derivative reproduction', where the contributor has created a new figure or table that derives substantially from a copyrighted source. Authors are themselves responsible for the payment of any permission fees required by the copyright owner. Copies of permission letters should be sent with the manuscript upon submission to the Editor(s).

Manuscript submission

All submissions should be made online at the European Journal of Psychotherapy and Counselling ScholarOne Manuscripts site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.

Submissions must be accompanied by an abstract of 200 words: a short statement that briefly details the essential information of the paper, its aims, methods, results and conclusions. Authors are also required to select 4-6 keywords that reflect the content of their manuscript. The keywords selected will help the editorial office identify appropriate reviewers for each manuscript.

Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text and when uploading this file, authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as “File not for review.”

The second version of the manuscript should have all information identifying the author(s) removed from the file, to allow it to be sent anonymously to referees.  This file should be defined as the “Main Document.”

Contributors should also include brief biographical details (not more than 100 words) for each author, which may include their institutional affiliation, membership of an organisation and aspects of their biography that they think are important and relevant to their contribution to the journal. These details should be saved as a separate file and defined as “Author Bio.”

Book reviews

Books for review should be submitted to Dr Robert Snell, School of Educational Studies, University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey GU2 5XH, UK (Tel: +44(0) 1483 300 800).

Copyright: It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors may, of course, use the article elsewhere after publication without prior permission from Taylor & Francis, provided that acknowledgement is given to the Journal as original source of publication, and that Taylor & Francis is notified so that our records show that its use is properly authorised. Authors retain a number of other rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies documents. These policies are referred to at http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/authorrights.pdf for full details. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.
