Instructions for Authors
All submissions should be made online at the Tourism Geographies Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre. Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as “file not for review”. Manuscript Preparation 1. General Guidelines - Submission should be in UK or US English (provided usage is consistent), typed in one-and-a-half line spacing, with wide margins.
- The title page should include the title of the manuscript and the names and affiliations of all contributors, including full address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail, along with a brief biographical note 2 to 3 sentences in length. One author should be identified as the corresponding author.
- Manuscripts should be compiled in the following order: main text; acknowledgments; appendices (as appropriate); references.
- Abstracts of 200-250 words are required for all papers submitted, with between three and ten keywords. A version of the abstract may also be included in French, German and/or Spanish in a separate document.
- References should be indicated in the text by author and date. Include page numbers for quotations.
- Quotations of 40 words or more should be extracted and indented.
- Footnotes are not accepted - all important information should be incorporated in the text.
A reference list should be included, in alphabetical order by author, at the end of the manuscript. The content and format should conform to the following examples: Book Hall, C. M.&Jenkins, J. (1995) Tourism and Public Policy (London: Routledge). Article in edited volume England, M. (2001) The tourist place: neoclassical assumptions, in: M. A. Ferber & J. A. Nelson (Eds) Beyond Tourism, pp. 37-53 (Chicago, IL: University of Chicago Press). Article in journal/multiple authors Strober, H. (1999) Tourism and the workplace, The Professional Geographer, 52(1), pp. 93-119. Article in newspaper Robinson, A. (1999) Training for tourism, Wall Street Journal, Opinion section, June 29. Unpublished Badger, D. C. L. (1999) Civil rights and civilized tourism. Paper presented at the annual meeting of the Association for Tourism Policy, Mexico City, Mexico, 1-5 April. Internet source Smythe, J. (1999) Ecoterrorism and ecotourism. Available at http://www.eee.html (accessed 24 April 2003). 2. Figures We welcome figures sent electronically, but care and attention to these guidelines is essential as importing graphics packages can often be problematic. - Tables and figures must be saved individually and separate to text. Please do not embed figures in the paper file.
- Avoid the use of colour and tints for purely aesthetic reasons.
- Figures should be produced as near to the finished size as possible.
- All figures must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the paper (e.g. figure 1, figure 2). In multi-part figures, each part should be labelled (e.g. figure 1 (a), figure 1 (b)).
- Figure captions must be saved separately, as part of the file containing the complete text of the paper, and numbered correspondingly.
- The filename of the graphic should be descriptive of the graphic, e.g. Figure1, Figure 2a.
- Files should be saved as one of the following formats: TIFF (tagged image file format), PostScript or EPS (encapsulated PostScript), and should contain all the necessary font information and the source file of the application (e.g. CorelDraw/Mac, CorelDraw/PC).
Please note that is in the author's interest to provide the highest quality figure format possible. Please do not hesitate to contact our Production Department if you have any queries. 3. Manuscript Submission All submissions should be made online at the Tourism Geographies Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. All papers that conform to the guidelines stipulated and deemed of acceptable quality by the receiving Editor will undergo a blind review process. Manuscripts should be directed to: Alan A. Lew, e-mail: Alan.Lew@nau.edu Authors are invited to nominate up to two referees (not from their own institution) although it is not guaranteed that they will be consulted. If accepted for publication, authors will be required to complete a Publishing Agreement form assigning copyright to the Publisher. 4. Free article access Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Reprints of articles published in this journal can be purchased through Rightslink® when proofs are received. If you have any queries, please contact our reprints department at reprints@tandf.co.uk 5. Proofs Corrections should be clearly identified and returned within three working days of receipt. Major alterations cannot be accepted. 6. Copyright and Author's Rights It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or licence the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors may, of course, use the article elsewhere after publication without prior permission from Taylor & Francis, provided that acknowledgement is given to the Journal as the original source of publication, and that Taylor & Francis is notified so that our records show that its use is properly authorised. Authors retain a number of other rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies documents. These policies are referred to at http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/authorrights.pdf for full details. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.
