Instructions for Authors

Preparing for Submission
Publications may have the form of original articles, i.e. theoretical or methodological studies or empirical reports, of reviews of books and dissertations, as well as of short reports, of minor or ongoing studies or short notes, commenting on earlier published material. Submitted manuscripts should be arranged according to the rules stated in "Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals" Ann Intern Med 1997; 126: 36-47, or JAMA 1997; 277: 927-34. The full document is available at www.icmje.org. When submitting a paper, the author should always make a full statement to the editor about all submissions and previous reports that might be regarded as redundant or duplicate publication of the same or very similar work.

Conflict of interest and funding: Authors are responsible for recognising and disclosing financial and other conflicts of interest that might bias their work. They should acknowledge in the manuscript all financial support for the work and other financial or personal connections to the work.

Ethics and consent: When reporting experiments on human subjects, indicate whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation and with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975, as revised in 1983. Do not use patients'names, initials, or hospital numbers, especially in illustrative material. Identifying information should not be published in written descriptions, photographs, and pedigrees unless the information is essential for scientific purposes and the patient (or parent or guardian) gives written informed consent for publication. Informed consent for this purpose requires that the patient be shown the manuscript to be published.

Copyright
It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors must read and agree to the conditions outlined in the Copyright Assignment Form, and must sign the Form. This form will be sent out at the time of acceptance of the manuscript, and should be returned as soon as possible to Informa Healthcare. For further information about our copyright policy please click here.

Process of submission
All submissions should be made online at the Logopedics Phoniatrics Vocology Manuscript Central site found at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/slog. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.

Arrangement of manuscripts
Manuscripts must be written in clear and correct English. Authors hesitating as to the adequacy of their English are recommended having their papers revised by a language editor.
The manuscript should be submitted in Word format. Please note that we do not accept LaTex files. The typescript (double spaced) of a regular article should not exceed 10-12 pages (6000 words), that of a short report or note 3-4 pages.
Papers should be organised as follows: title page (page 1), abstract page (page 2), text (page 3 and following), list of references, and on separate sheets tables and legends for illustration. A blinded version of the manuscript should also be submitted.
Title page. Should include (1) the title of the paper, stressing its most important message; (2) name(s) of author(s); (3) name and address of their department(s); (4) a running headline (condensed title) of no more than 50 characters; (5) the corresponding author' title, name and full address, including phone, fax and e-mail.
Abstract. Should be arranged as follows: Name(s) of author(s) as in the reference list, title of the paper, abstract text, not exceeding 120 words, stressing the most important data and conclusions and up to 10 key words.
Text. Whenever possible the text should be organized into Introduction (definition of problem, earlier work), Material, Methods, Results, Discussion (with final conclusion) and Acknowledgements. Please indicate where to insert figures and tables by leaving blank rows in the text. Footnotes and appendices should be avoided.
References. The Vancouver system must be applied. Number the references consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Identify references in the text by Arabic numerals (in parentheses). Papers accepted but not yet published should be designated as (in press). Information from unpublished manuscripts should be cited in the text as "unpublished observation(s)" or "personal communication".
