1. Introduction
Global Public Health is aimed foremost at creating a focus for debate and critical reflection on past trends, present realities and likely futures within the field of public health, with a concern to understand resource-poor and resource-rich countries and the public health challenges they face as part of a single, interacting global system.
The journal welcomes original research, scholarly reviews and overviews, and book reviews on relevant global health themes.
It is essential that authors prepare their manuscripts according to established specifications. Failure to follow them may result in your paper being delayed. The effectiveness of the search capabilities offered will depend upon the care used by authors in preparing their manuscripts. Therefore, contributors are strongly encouraged to read these instructions carefully before preparing a manuscript for submission, and to check the manuscript for compliance with these notes before submitting it for publication.
2. Submitting a Paper to Global Public Health
All submissions should be made online at the Global Public Health ScholarOne Manuscripts site . New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.
Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. In the anonymous version of the manuscript, please delete any acknowledgements as these may serve as identifying information. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as “File not for review”.
Submissions should be produced using a standard word processing program, such as MSWORD. Please do not submit manuscripts in a PDF format. Please make sure your complete contact address information - including email address - is provided at the time of submission.
Should authors have any queries about the preparation of manuscripts they should contact the Editor-in-Chief in advance of submission.
Contributions to Global Public Health must report original research and will be subjected to review by referees. All submissions will be initially reviewed by the Senior Editorial Board to determine their suitability for review and potential inclusion in the journal. Those articles accepted for formal review will be sent to at least two independent peer referees, with all identifying information removed.
3. General Guidelines
Global Public Health considers all manuscripts on the strict condition that they have been submitted only to Global Public Health, that they have not been published already, nor are they under consideration for publication or in press elsewhere. Authors who fail to adhere to this condition will be charged with all costs which Global Public Health incurs and their papers will not be published.
The Editorial Staff will consider the following types of submissions:
(1) Original research papers examining one of the six thematic areas of the journal: social patterning of health; environmental health sciences; population and health; conflict and health; international health polity and management; and global health and development.
(2) Scholarly reviews and overviews of substantive, conceptual and methodological issues linked to an analysis of key public health issues in the global context;
(3) Book reviews of recent texts on the critical themes and topics addressed by the journal. To register your interest in reviewing a book, or to send a book to be reviewed, please contact the editorial office: Global Public Health, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, 722 West 168th Street, Room 908, New York, NY 10032, USA, gph-msph@columbia.edu - marked for the attention of Laura Murray, Book Review Editor.
