Aims and Scope

The International Journal of Sustainable Transportation provides a discussion forum for the exchange of new and innovative ideas on sustainable transportation research in the context of environmental, economical, social, and engineering aspects, as well as current and future interactions, of transportation systems and other urban subsystems. The scope includes, but is not limited to, the examination of overall sustainability of a transportation system of any kind, including its infrastructure, vehicle, operation, and maintenance; the integration of social science disciplines, engineering, and information technology with transportation; the understanding of the comparative aspects of different transportation systems from a global perspective; qualitative and quantitative transportation studies; and case studies, surveys, and expository papers in an international or local context. Equal emphasis is placed on the problems of sustainable transportation that are associated with passenger and freight transportation modes in both industrialized and non-industrialized areas.

Submission of Manuscripts

Authors must submit manuscripts online at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ujst.  Online submission will typically ensure a timely review of the manuscript. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright of the article to the publisher; without this signed transfer, articles will not be published unless they are government works in the public domain. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Authors should use numbering for subheads. Manuscript pages should be numbered consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words, which avoids abbreviations, diagrams, and direct reference to the text.

References

Cite in the text by author and date (e.g., Smith, 1983). Prepare reference list in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition. Examples:

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

• 300 dpi or higher
• sized to fit on journal page
• EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Number each consecutively with Arabic numerals and briefly and descriptively title each and refer to it in the text. Color Reproduction. Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online only conversion and reproduction or for printþonline reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if printþonline reproduction costs are paid. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, doublespaced, on a separate sheet.

Proofs

Page proofs are sent via e-mail to the designated corresponding author. They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Authors will be charged for excessive proof changes.

Offprints

The corresponding author of each article will receive one complete copy of the issue in which the article appears. Offprints or reprints of an individual article may be ordered from Taylor & Francis. A link to the ordering form is included at the proof stage. A discount on reprints is available for authors who order before print publication.
