Content:
Psychological Inquiry is an international forum for the discussion of theory and meta-theory. The journal aims to publish articles that represent broad, provocative, and debatable, theoretical ideas. The articles should be of importance to social, personality, developmental, clinical, or health psychologists. The journal is published quarterly, and it typically includes a theoretical, issue-oriented target article accompanied by peer commentary and the target author's reply to that commentary. Manuscripts for the target articles may be submitted or invited. Manuscripts for the commentaries are always invited (based on input from the editors and the target authors). Psychological Inquiry discourages submission of purely empirical or applied articles.
Manuscript Submission:
Email submissions are preferred and should be sent to Ronnie Janoff-Bulman, Editor, at janbul@psych.umass.edu. You can also submit a hard copy of your manuscript to: Ronnie Janoff-Bulman, Department of Psychology, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003. Target articles should be approximately 50 double-spaced manuscript pages in length, including references. Manuscripts are not returned.
Editorial Style:
Prepare manuscripts according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA; 6th ed.).
Cover Sheet:
Provide a cover sheet that includes the article title and the author's name, affiliation, and full address. (The article title should also appear on the first text page.)
Typing:
Use 8 1/2 x 11 paper. Set all margins at 1 1/2 in. Type all components double-spaced, including title page, abstract (1,000 characters or fewer, counting spaces between words), text, acknowledgments, references, appendices, tables, figure captions, and footnotes. Indent all paragraphs.
References:
Provide complete, APA-formatted references and text citations and make sure that the two correspond exactly. The APA Manual provides (a) detailed guidelines on preparing references and citations and (b) many excellent sample references and citations. When typing a reference for a chapter in an edited book, be sure to add the inclusive page numbers of the chapter.
Figures and Tables:
Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.
Illustrations:
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines: - 300 dpi or higher - Sized to fit on journal page - EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only - Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.
Copyright and Permissions:
Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
Proofs and Reprints:
Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
