Instructions for Authors

The Journal of Transatlantic Studies is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary journal that publishes papers that focus on the transatlantic region. Disciplines and areas of study encompassed by the journal include Politics, History, Security Studies and International Relations, Economics, Literature and Culture, Planning and the Environment, Race and Migration. The Journal of Transatlantic Studies is supported by the Transatlantic Studies Association.

Articles submitted to the Journal of Transatlantic Studies should be original contributions and should not be derived from existing or planned publications. Articles should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time. If another version of the article is under consideration by another publication, or has been, or will be published elsewhere, authors should clearly indicate this at the time of submission.

All submissions will normally be reviewed by two anonymous referees and a member of the editorial team. Decisions will normally be made about publication within 6 months of submission.

Submissions
The standard word length for articles is articles of 6,000 - 10,000 words (including notes and references) but there will be no prejudice against longer articles of 10,000 words and above if quality justifies publication. The article should begin with an indented abstract of around 100 words, which should describe the main arguments and conclusions of the article. Authors should also include 5 keywords representing the major themes of the article, to be provided on a separate sheet of paper.

Please submit two title pages, one with and one without the author's details on it. Details of the author's institutional affiliation, full address and other contact information should be included on the cover sheet along with a note on the exact length of the article.

All submissions should be presented electronically as a Word Document email attachment addressed to the Editor.

  • E-Mail: a.p.dobson@dundee.ac.uk
  • Alternatively if the author cannot submit electronically please mail to: Prof. Alan Dobson, Journal of Transatlantic Studies, Director of the Institute for Transatlantic, European and American Studies, Department of Politics, University of Dundee, Perth Road, Dundee, DD1 4HN, Scotland, UK.

All Books for Review or Book Reviews should be clearly marked Book Review and either e-mailed or posted to: Mike Cullinane, School of History, University College Cork, Cork, Ireland. Email: m.cullinane@ucc.ie.

Special Issues
The editors invite proposals for special issues or special sections on a focused theme. All special issues or sections are refereed in two stages. Contributors interested in organizing a special issue or theme should contact the editors in the first instance.
