1. The editors welcome original contributions. By submission of a manuscript an author certifies that the work is original and is not being considered simultaneously by another publisher.
   
   
2. Manuscripts should normally not exceed 8000 words in length and should be written in the English Language. They should also include an abstract of 100 words. Electronic submissions are preferred, typed double-spaced and the pages should be numbered. Your full name and up-to-date postal and email address should be given on a title sheet and the article proper should begin on page 2.
   
   
3. Footnotes to the text should be avoided wherever this is reasonable possible. If explanatory notes are essential, refer to them in the text by superscripts 1,2,3 etc. The notes themselves should be gathered together at the end of the manuscript before the references section. All measurements should be in metric units, or state metric equivalents.
   
   
4. References should be cited in the text by giving the author(s) name and the year of publication, as follows: Weaver (1978) or (Weaver 1978). If several papers by the same author and from the same year are cited, a, b, c, etc. should be put after the year of publication. The full references must be listed on a separate sheet at the end of the manuscript in Harvard style. They should include all authors' names and initials, year of publication, title of article or book, the full title of the journal, volume and page numbers and for books and other documents, the publisher's name and place of publication, e.g.
   
   Lang, J., 1994. Urban design: the American experience. New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold.
   
   Parsons, K. C., 1994. Collaborative genius: the Regional Planning Association of America. Journal of the American Planning Association, 60 (4), 462-482.

5. Tables, illustrations, figures and photographs. Tables should be gathered together at the end and numbered consecutively and should not be included as part of the text. The approximate position of the tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions, scales, keys, source details and other critical wording should also be included. Ideally illustrations, photographs should be submitted electronically in TIFF or JPEG formats. If they cannot be prepared electronically, they should be presented as black and white glossy prints mounted on card. High resolution images (at least 300 dpi) should be used for best quality reproduction.
   
   
6. Free article access. Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Reprints of articles published in this journal can be purchased through Rightslink® when proofs are received.
