Instructions for Authors

Submission

Submissions should be of up to 8,000 words (excluding display material and references). Please ensure that the files are not saved as read only and virus-check all files before uploading them. Please also ensure that there are no tracked changes or comments in the document.

Manuscripts should be submitted online using the Journal of Marketing Management ScholarOne Manuscripts site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.

Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non#8208anonymous version as “Complete paper with author details”, and the anonymous version as “Main document minus author information”.

Presentation
Contributions should be typed on A4 paper with double-line spacing and wide margins. Pages (including those containing only figures and tables) should be numbered consecutively. Each article should be presented as follows:

1. Title page: title, authors' names, affiliations and addresses and the name, address, email address, and telephone and fax numbers of the author to whom all correspondence concerning the article should be sent.

2. Second page: title, abstract of about 150 words and up to six keywords for indexing purposes and a biography for each author (c. 150 words each) detailing the authors' background, affiliations and interests.

Abstract

The abstract (c. 150 words), which must be narrative rather than structured, should briefly describe the work to be discussed in your paper and also give a concise summary of the findings. Your abstract should include the following information (Please note this should not be a structured abstract, these are just suggestions of the information which should be included in the abstract):

  • Purpose of the Paper - What are the reasons for writing the paper or the aims of the research?
  • Design/Methodology/Approach - How are the objectives achieved? What are the main methods used for the research. What is the approach to the topic and what is the theoretical or subject scope of the paper.
  • Findings - What was found in the course of the work? Refer to analysis, discussion, results
  • What is Original/Value of Paper - What is new in the paper? State the value of the paper and to whom.

If applicable include:

  • Research/Limitations/Implications - If research is reported on in the paper, include suggestions for future research and identified limitations in the research process.
  • Practical Limitations - What outcomes and implications for practice, applications and consequences are identified? What changes to practice should be made as a result of this research/paper?

Keywords

Careful selection of keywords will mean that researchers are more likely to retrieve, read and cite your article. By optimising your article for search engines, you will increase the chance of someone finding it.  Think about the words/phrases that will lead people to your article.

Please supply five to six keywords. Of these, one should describe the topic area and one should describe the methodology used. The remaining keywords should reflect the specificity of the paper. Use the most common term for a concept/theory and do not make up new terms for an old concept.

Main body of the paper: presented as given below.

Headings - Level of headings should be clear. Main headings should be in bold and subheadings in italics. Sentence case (Only the first word capitalised) should be used for all headings.

Spelling - Apart from in References or direct quotes, British spellings should be used throughout and where there is an alternative use s- rather than z- endings (eg. organise rather than organize). Please check your article carefully for grammar, spelling and typographical errors.

Quotation marks and emphasis in the text - Single quote marks should be used for direct quotations. For quotations within quotations, double quotes should be used. Where a direct quotation is in excess of 40 words, this should be indented in a separate paragraph. Italics should be used for emphasis. Please ensure that the same style is used consistently throughout the paper.

Tables and figures
Each should be numbered in the order in which they are referred to in the text and cited as Figure 1, Table 1, etc. Figures and tables need to be positioned in the body of the text where they should appear.

Figures, tables, illustrations etc. should be kept to a minimum and all must be “print-ready” and provided in black and white. Please use shading sparingly, and only to aid the reader's understanding. Electronic figures should either be copied and pasted from the origination software or saved and imported into the manuscript. Please ensure that graphics are supplied as files at a resolution of at least 300 dpi and at least 10cm wide. Photographic images should be submitted electronically and should be saved as tif or jpeg files at a resolution of at least 300dpi and at least 10cm wide. All should be supplied with captions and credit lines. It is the author's responsibility to ensure that all necessary permission has been granted to use copyright images and that the correct credit lines are given. If you have any questions at all about supplying graphics or permissions clearance, please contact the editorial office.

Footnotes
Footnotes should be kept to a minimum and should offer significant comment and not just merely cite references. References should be indicated within the main body of the text.

References

References are indicated in the text in the APA (American Psychological Association) style. Guides to these can be downloaded:

If you have any questions about references or formatting your article, please contact authorqueries@tandf.co.uk (please mention the journal title in your email).

Copyright
It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or licence the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Westburn Publishers Ltd. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies, which can be found at www.informaworld.com/authors_journals_copyright_position. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources. Papers are accepted for the Journal on the understanding that they have not been or will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in any language.

Refereeing
All submitted papers are logged and given a reference number, which will be used in all correspondence throughout the review process. Papers are then passed to the Journal Editor, who will desk review them and decide whether they are suitable submissions to the Journal. At this stage, authors will either receive a desk reject letter from the Editor or their paper will be put out for review.

All papers are double-blind reviewed and are sent to two reviewers whose interests and expertise lie within a relevant field. We hope to receive reviews back within 6-8 weeks and once both reviews have been received, the Editor will make a decision. Authors will be sent a copy of the reviewers' comments and as a result of these comments, may be asked to revise and resubmit their paper. Resubmitted papers may then be returned to the original reviewers for further comment.

Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author (unless otherwise specified) for correction. The author should return the proofs within 48 hours of receipt to avoid delay to publication. Extensive alterations which were not in the original manuscript are strongly discouraged.

Free article access
Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Reprints of articles published in this journal can be purchased through Rightslink® when proofs are received. If you have any queries, please contact our reprints department at reprints@tandf.co.uk
